I feel guilty for telling a dog "no"

This is ridiculous!  I recognize that I shouldn't have to feel guilty for not taking my daughter's dog, Miley, (that we're babysitting overnight) on a run.  But, I do!

She's not doing that whining/pouting thing that the youngest daughters do, but it's almost as bad. She keeps coming over and putting her head in my lap, wagging her tail expectantly and using her big brown eyes to plead for an early morning run.

How do I explain to her that my 24 year old daughter is fit and able to run marathons, but her mother is not in that same condition?  Would Miley be able to drag my carcass home or dial 911 on my cellphone?  Could she perform CPR until someone arrives to help?

She didn't answer any of these questions to my satisfaction.  I suppose the next best thing will be to take her out on her lead just so she can be outside and not have to lay over there on the couch giving me that imploring look.

I'm starting to wonder if pets will soon be running the world - they sure know how to get us to cater to them!

Funny but I know how you feel. I feel guilty if I don't get up when the cat wants me to.

Hi, Rindy! I think cats make one feel even guiltier. My mom changed her whole sleep pattern to coincide with the cat's - not the other way around... ; ) So glad to see you here!

Hi Angie,
That's a sad situation indeed. Glad it's just an overnighter! Maybe you'll have to think carefully about doing longer stretches! Somehow work it into only available times are when the marathon daughter has a time slot! That is just such an incredibly soulful look. No wonder you feel guilty. It's enough to send the SPCA right in!

Hi, Vicki -

I had to giggle at your comment. Her mommy was back in the early afternoon, so she will soon be off for her runs again.

On the other hand, she loves our yard with all of the rabbits to be gazed at and talked to. She always goes through a little "depression" for a day or two after Claree takes her back home.

Thanks for visiting me, Vicki - hope your internet issues are resolved...

Hugs,

~Angie
